Located at the base of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains – where the Rocky Mountains meet the Great Plains – Boulder is a destination location known for its natural beauty, commitment to sustainability and progressive policies. Nestled 35 miles northwest of Denver at an elevation of 5,430 feet, Boulder (pop. 103,000) is world-renowned for its spectacular scenery that includes more than 45,000 acres of open space. Reporting to the Learning & Organizational Development Manager (Dept. of Human Resources), the Diversity Officer takes the lead in seeking out and creating opportunities to increase the City of Boulder’s diverse and inclusive work environment while diligently promoting city values, diversity and inclusivity in public service. This position provides leadership in the development and delivery of diversity strategies, programs, initiatives and services that enhance inclusion, cultural competence and service delivery. The ideal candidate will be an experienced human resource professional with specific working knowledge and experience in diversity, training and development including in-depth knowledge of diversity and cross-cultural competence. He/she will have the proven ability to assist in developing a strategic plan and related initiatives, as well as performance measures to assess outcomes of diversity and inclusion programs. A Bachelor’s degree and minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in the field of diversity and inclusion are required. In-depth knowledge and experience should include the areas of theory and practice of diversity issues, equity and inclusion, including EEO compliance, understanding and/or experience of affirmative action, diversity strategy and program management, change management, employee engagement, organizational development and human resources related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. A professional HR certification and relevant Master’s degree desired. The salary range is negotiable. Actual salary will depend on the qualifications of the successful candidate.
