The Town of Christiansburg, Virginia (21,943), a growing community of 14 square miles located in the New River Valley of Virginia, is seeking applications from qualified candidates for the position of Town Manager.
Nestled between the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Interstate 81 corridor, Virginia Tech, Radford University and two major hospitals, Christiansburg serves diverse collegiate, commercial and professional industries, while still maintaining the vibe of a small town. That’s a vibe we want to keep, even after being selected as the passenger rail site for the New River Valley, which is estimated to attract anywhere from 2,500 to 15,000 new visitors to the area each year.
While we may be located in one of the fastest growing areas in Virginia, Christiansburg still has more than 2,000 acres of undeveloped land, providing us with a unique opportunity for smart and progressive urban planning.
Recreation is a large part of Christiansburg’s identity, and you can see why when you visit our local parks and sports complexes and explore the Huckleberry Trail, which connects to neighboring Blacksburg. No matter the season, there are always exciting programs available through our Aquatic and Recreation centers. And with a growing festival scene and brand new Farmers Market, we’re all about bringing people together. Christiansburg is the place to work, live and play – and we hope you’ll join us.
The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, civil engineering, planning and zoning and/or equivalent experience; with a master’s degree desired. In addition, a substantial amount of public or private sector management experience as a manager, deputy or assistant in a comparably sized or larger city, county or comparable organization is also required. A combination of private and public experience is desired. The successful candidate will be a progressive and forward thinking visionary leader. The successful candidate must be someone with strong integrity and character that has an appreciation for the Christiansburg community. ICMA Credentialed Managers are encouraged to apply. Must be willing to immediately immerse one’s self in the Christiansburg community if hired.
The salary for the position is negotiable dependent upon the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The Town offers an excellent benefits package which includes participation in the Virginia Retirement System, paid time off, medical, dental and vision insurance, tuition reimbursement, professional dues and conference expenses.
