Conveniently located 25 miles north of Dallas, the City of Allen has a thoughtful blend of residential and commercial developments to ensure a distinct presence in North Texas that makes Allen an outstanding place to call home. Allen is a home rule city with a council-manager form of government; the Allen City Council is comprised of a Mayor and six Council members who are elected at-large and serve three-year, staggered terms. With a staff of just over 800 individuals, the City of Allen provides superior service in all levels of municipal operations. The Allen Fire Department and it’s 116 members provide fire protection, emergency medical services, and other specialized rescue services for the City of Allen from five strategically located fire stations.
The City of Allen desires an innovative, progressive, and creative Fire Chief with a collaborative and approachable management style. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in fire science, public administration, or a related field, and at least seven years of local government fire service experience is required. A master’s degree is preferred. Designation as a Chief Fire Officer, graduation from the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer program, and at least three years of experience as a Chief Fire Officer in a community of similar size or as an Assistant Chief in a larger community are highly desired qualifications. The successful candidate must hold Fire Officer IV, Master Firefighter, and Head of Department Certification from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection or have the training, experience, and current certification to achieve certification by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection within 12 months of appointment. Current IFSAC or NPQB Certification as a Fire Officer III or IV is preferred.
