The Chief Equity Officer is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the City’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. As a member of the Executive Team, the Chief Equity Officer manages an organization-wide effort to support the development and implementation of programs that foster equity and inclusion and maximizes the impact of services delivered to the community. This position will collaborate with City leadership and community stakeholders to establish equity as a shared value across the organization and the community. This position will further advance the City’s commitment to diversity, equity, nclusion and further manage the process of addressing complaints filed under the Non-Discrimination ordinance to better serve San Antonio residents.
The Office of Equity fosters an inclusive culture across the City organization, ensures City processes have equitable outcomes and facilitates the resolution of discrimination complaints. Four annual goals drive the Office of Equity’s work:
Advance equity in budgeting, community engagement, and high priority service delivery
Build awareness and involvement in through transformational community engagement
Collaborate with other institutions to achieve San Antonio’s vision of prosperity
Improve services for community members submitting discrimination complaints
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Act as official representative on diversity, equity, and inclusion to City departments, the City Manager’s Office, elected officials, and in the community.
Advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusion, and develop strategies and shared organizational responsibility for equity.
Provide strategic, operational, and organizational leadership that grows capacity for intercultural competence, nurturance of diverse populations, and inclusive leadership.
Facilitate and support department training on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
In collaboration with City Departments, develop outcomes, metrics, and goals that ensure accountability towards equitable delivery of City services.
Serve as a liaison between the City and community stakeholders to align efforts to improve the quality of life of our San Antonio residents.
Collect, analyze, and present data measuring the City’s progress on incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the organization.
Facilitate discrimination complaints in collaboration with relevant City departments, including but not limited to the City Attorney’s Office, Disability Access Office, the Fair Housing Office, and the San Antonio Police Department.
Coordinate workforce diversity issues and recommend diversity training for the City workforce in collaboration with the Human Resources Department.
Develop and implement budgets, cost containment procedures, and program improvement measures.
Manage the preparation of grant applications to ensure adequacy and timeliness.
Conduct regular national best practices research and comparative analyses to ensure the City’s continue progress as a municipal leader in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Public Administration, Political Science, Education, Sociology, Ethnic Studies, Communication, or a closely related field.
Seven (7) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the areas of government, community, or educational programs related to diversity, inclusion and equity. Experience working in a public agency serving a large population preferred.
