The City of Roanoke is seeking a Collections Inspector in our Solid Waste Management division of Public Works. This position assists with the inspection of complaints concerning illegal dumping on public property, refuse container violations and excessive bulk and brush to ensure compliance with municipal code. In the field of code enforcement, the contacts occasionally are adversarial in nature and the employee must use skill, tact and good judgment to resolve both technical and interpersonal problems. Performs field inspections to identify code violations of neglect, excessive litter, and presence of unsightly or hazardous refuse.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Performs field inspections to identify code violations of neglect, excessive litter, and presence of unsightly or hazardous refuse
Assists citizens by explaining City codes, regulations and requirements, and offers advice on how to achieve compliance
Interviews residents and inspects area to investigate reports of illegal dumping and neglected land
Works with other departments to post illegal dumping signs
Assists with investigations and makes contact with citizens when necessary
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
