The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) was established in 2018 as the 25th institution and the seventh professional school of The City University of New York. The new School builds upon and expands the work of the Joseph S. Murphy Institute, which has served the educational needs of working adults for nearly 35 years. The mission of the School is to: 1) Offer undergraduate and graduate programs to labor and urban studies to working adults and traditional-age students. 2) Expand educational opportunities working adults while meeting the workforce development needs of the City and State. 3) Serves the labor and broader community by conducting research, offering leadership development programs, hosting forums and national conferences, and publishing articles, books, and a national labor journal to promote debate on issues critical to labor and working-class communities.
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Operations, the Enrollment Director oversees all aspects of the School of Labor and Urban Studies enrollment management process including the implementation and evaluation of effective student–centered recruitment and selection.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: - Directs, monitors, and evaluates all aspects of the enrollment process. - Oversees production of all recruitment and application materials. - Develops and implements various recruitment events. - Directs recruitment efforts, including the development and maintenance of an annual recruitment calendar, and represents the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies at internal and external events as needed. - Manages recruitment and travel budget. - Develops institute-wide student recruitment activities and strategies. - Ensures the School of Labor and Urban Studies is visible in community agencies, at graduate education fairs, and other community events. - Develops and implements enrollment models and statistical reports. - Interprets data regarding recruitment, application, and admission tracks and projects admissions; develops student profile reports that indicate predictors of enrollment success. - Ensures the efficient and effective enrollment of students such that the school achieves is annual enrollment targets. - Recommends and reviews new student enrollment targets. - Oversees and manage staff and daily operations of the Enrollment Office. - Provides leadership and management in facilitating matters of administrative, enrollment and operations affairs. - Evaluates reports on recruitment outcomes, strategies and recommends improvements. - Develops close working relationships with all unit teams in Urban Studies, Labor Studies, and Worker Education to develop and implement program-specific recruiting and pre-admissions activities. - Develops close working relationships with unions, community-based organizations, and employers to enroll students in School of Labor and Urban Studies programs. - Liaises to other CUNY units to enroll students in the school’s workers education and workforce development programs. - Ensures that all admissions documents, forms, credentials and requirements are accurately and timely collected, processed, recorded and filed, in accordance with internal policies and standards. - Performs other related tasks assigned by Associate Dean.
QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree and eight years' related experience required.
The following qualifications are strongly preferred: - A Master’s degree and 8 years of supervisory admissions and/or retention experience in a higher education setting preferred; - Demonstrated ability to meet enrollment targets; - Direct experience with student recruitment; - Experience with higher education policies, practices, and administration; - Experience with Labor, community, and non-profit institutions; - Excellent written, oral communication, interpersonal and presentation skills; - Evidence of effective team-building; - Evidence of ability to work independently as well as collaboratively; - Competence in a range of computer applications (e.g. internet research, MS Office, social media); - Knowledge of admissions application and CRM systems; experience with Hobsons Education Solutions is highly desirable, experience with CUNYfirst is preferred; - Ability to work evenings/weekends and travel domestically;
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW - Directs a College Enrollment Management function. - Designs, implements and executes an enrollment management plan through research and analysis of enrollment issues, trends, and models; provides leadership in advancing the College's enrollment goals - Develops strategic plans, establishes methods to implement initiatives, measures outcomes and monitors progress to achieve enrollment targets - Partners with appropriate College units to apply coordinated enrollment and retention plans which provide services to students and applicants in an efficient and effective manner - Administers data analyses and reports development related to critical enrollment issues; presents results to facilitate executive decision making - Oversees department budget and advises on allocation of College funds regarding enrollment efforts across other units - Manages professional and clerical staff - Performs related duties as assigned.
