Performs complex professional and administrative work planning organizing and directing all activities of the Public Works Department; does related work as required. Work involves setting policies and goals under the direction of the City Manager. Departmental supervision is exercised over all department personnel.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities – Comprehensive knowledge of municipal public works administration, planning and design; ability to prepare technical reports; thorough knowledge in the use of standard office equipment, computer and related software; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards of the work and necessary safety precautions; ability to review and analyze plans and specifications for the construction of public facilities; ability to formulate comprehensive operational policies and procedures; ability to maintain records and prepare technical reports; ability to plan and manage the work of a large staff; ability to make arithmetic computations; ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages; ability to understand and apply governmental accounting practices in maintenance of financial records; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, associates, contractors and the general public.
Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Obtain Debris Management Plan certification within 6 months of hire.
Completion of ICS 100,200,300,400 and 800B training within one year of hire.
