The Stormwater Division of the Public Works Department in the City of Roanoke, Virginia is seeking two Maintenance Supervisors to lead the Stormwater Field Operations program, and to work as a part of the overall Utility team. Each position will manage a team of four or five crews split into above ground maintenance (street sweeping, lot & BMP maintenance, Central Business District, etc.) or below ground maintenance (storm drain infrastructure installation & repair, pipeline cleaning, asset inventory, ditch line & creek maintenance, etc.).
The Stormwater Maintenance Supervisor performs or assists in the planning, preparation, estimation, and design of internal construction and maintenance projects. Responsibilities includes the utility location coordination and the preparation of internal right-of-way permit documents. Requirements include general knowledge of construction site layout techniques and use of a builder's level; experience with combination cleaning vehicle/equipment use (vacuum and jetting); and the ability to read and understand construction drawings/sketches. This position is responsible for supervision of CCTV crews and data downloads of survey information into a WinCan data collection system. General understanding of GIS systems is a plus. Must coordinate and maintain daily work schedules and track job progress, inspect work sites and enforce all safety standards. Must have excellent problem-solving, verbal, and written skills, leadership ability that results in successful project completion, and ability to use computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Must have the ability to make presentations to groups of employees and/or the public.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is a minimum requirement of the position. A bachelor's degree in construction management, operations management or related filed is a plus; minimum of five (5) years experience and / or training in infrastructure maintenance and construction and supervisory responsibility or equivalent combination of education and experience is desired. NASSCO PACP certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment. Must possess a current, valid Virginia CDL A driver's permit with tanker endorsement (N). Must possess current VDOT flagging and work area protection certifications or obtain them within 6 months of hire. Completion of other tasks and jobs supporting the division may be assigned.
