The City of Greenville, North Carolina (population 91,495) is seeking an experienced and progressive individual to be its next City Clerk. Current City Clerk is retiring in September 2019. Reporting to the Mayor and City Council, the City Clerk plans, organizes, and directs the activities and operations of the City Clerk’s Office. In this highly visible position, the City Clerk attends City Council meetings and accurately records proceedings; maintains and preserves official City records; manages public notice requirements; monitors and coordinates board and commission appointments; assists the public and City staff by providing information and research assistance; supervises administrative support personnel; and conducts official duties prescribed by the City Charter.
Ideal candidate has strong leadership, organizational, relationship-building, and communication (written and verbal) skills, and is self-directed, service- and detail-oriented, and able to multi-task under time constraints.
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, business administration, English, or a related field, supplemented with advanced courses and seminars from the School of Government related to City Clerk functions and activities and five years of progressively responsible administrative experience in municipal government, including supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation is desirable or must obtain CMC designation within two years. Certification as a N.C. Notary Public required at time of appointment. Must be available to work regularly scheduled and special night meetings.
