Water patrols to ensure artificial reef enhancements are being done properly
Joining a team at one of the islands for habitat restoration

Being part of the Team helping clean a beach park after a major holiday
Preparing for and presenting to a civic group or to the Board of County Commissioners
Helping preserve and protect County-owned properties on the Myakka Wild and Scenic River

We need a leader who can cultivate and nurture relationships with fellow county departments, community groups, and within Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources (PRNR), while being an advocate for the team.
Natural Resource Management
Coaching of Staff – to help them succeed individually and facilitate their career goals while also achieving the goals of the department.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening:This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug-screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five years.
Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, one of the biological or natural sciences, leisure services, education, or related field, and six (6) years of professional experience related to the position. -OR - A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with four or more years of related experience. May consider substituting years of experience for the 4- year degree.
Preferred Qualification: Previous experience in the management of beaches and water access parks; previous experience in management of natural and cultural resources, park development and improvement projects; previous experience in coastal regulations; well versed in dealing with public and political issues; previous experience with media relations; exceptional writing skills; CPRP preferred.
Job Competencies: Ability to plan, direct, and supervise the operations and activities of the Beaches and Water Access Division within Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources; plan, organize, train, evaluate and direct work of assigned staff; organize, prioritize and follow-up on work assignments; work independently and as part of a team; make sound decisions within established guidelines; maintain and exhibit discretion and integrity when handling sensitive information; identify and respond to County and community-related issues and concerns; follow written and oral directions; observe safety principles and work in a safe manner; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing at a professional level; establish and maintain effective working relationships; and exercise sound, independent judgment. Considerable public contact is required which demands a high degree of tact.
