The City of Lubbock seeks a creative, innovative individual with exceptional leadership skills and a passion for customer service to be its new Parks and Recreation Director. Under the supervision of the Assistant City Manager for Cultural & Leisure Services, the Director of Parks and Recreation plans, organizes, and directs the development and maintenance of parks and recreation facilities and oversees the development and delivery of a broad program of community recreation. This position has management oversight of 81 full-time staff, 78 part-time staff, and 93 seasonal staff and a 2020 budget of over $11.8 million, as well as $5.8 million in capital funding.
The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation/park administration, public administration, program management, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in parks and recreation administration, including three years in a senior management position, is required. A candidate who has a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) designation is desired. Any combination of relevant education and experience in parks and recreation may be considered.
