The Special Advisor to the CEO on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Engagement (the "Advisor") will work across all departments within CAW and in partnership with various community organizations to eliminate systemic organizational marginalization and promote inclusive practices for the betterment of the utility, the communities CAW serves, and the water profession.
Must be an inspiring, collaborative, courageous, innovative, and visionary leader with outstanding people and management skills.
Deep content knowledge of the diversity, equity, and inclusiveness research base and best practices for organizations striving to become more diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
Knowledge of labor, including hiring and recruitment, laws and regulations, and civil rights legislation.
Demonstrated track record in challenging and influencing peers to approach all work with an equity lens.
Demonstrated understanding of cultural values and norms of various communities, particularly of communities of color and LGBTQ+ communities.
Strong background in managing change in large organizations.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to quickly establish credibility and to develop and manage productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Strong management skills: must be able to manage multiple projects effectively and to move quickly from one to another.
Ability to engage and work with diverse staff and leadership to promote trust and collaboration.
Ability to remain solution-focused and respectful in all interactions with staff, vendors, customers, community organizations, and elected officials.
Experience developing and implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.
Experience leading groups or teams of 5 or more.
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including specifically effective intercultural communication skills and the ability to advocate/address issues of diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Organizational Psychology or related field, or equivalent work experience advocating for and implementing change within a multi-cultural environment. Degree requirement may be waived for candidates whose work experience demonstrates a proficiency in many of the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities set forth above. Note: while CAW believes and supports continuous learning for all employees, this position is not the place to learn the basics of managing a strong and effective diversity, equity, and inclusivity program.
Must be a high-performing, innovative, values-driven, informed, and passionate individual.
Master's Degree in a stated or related field.
Experience presenting at regional or national seminars, workshops, or conferences on relevant topics.
Publication of relevant articles, studies, or commentary.
Teaching relevant subject matter at collegiate level or similar educational opportunities.
Certification in Type Indicator(s) such as Myers-Briggs, Birkman, Four Lenses, Enneagram, etc.
Fluent in Spanish.
