Under general supervision of the City of Altamont Governing Body, the City Clerk performs all duties and discharges all responsibilities as defined by the Kansas State Statute and City Ordinance; in addition, maintains records of activities producing monies for the City; completes all required City administrative reports; is the official custodian of municipal documents and is responsible for various city financial records; handles important, confidential documents; and performs other duties as may be assigned.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily within 6 months to 1 year of hire. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Associates degree in business, public administration, or related field preferred.
Accurate and efficient typing skills
Knowledge and skill in computer software applications related to work including Microsoft Office suite products.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Must be bondable.
Preference given to Kansas Municipal City Clerk or must attain within 5 years of hire.
Public Notary or must attain within 6 months of hire.

Minimum training and experience include graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in public administration, business administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Desired experience includes two to five years of experience in municipal or county government, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience; ten years preferred
