City Clerk The Position The City Clerk is responsible for facilitating the work of the City Council and all Committees and Commissions by ensuring the preparation of agendas, minutes, maintaining records of meetings, informing residents of all City Council, Committee and Commission actions, and supervising City elections. Distinguishing Characteristics This position is established by City Charter and appointed by the City Council. This position reports to the City Council and takes direction from the City Council on policy matters. Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge Of: - Record retention as it relates to city government.
- State laws regulating city operations.
- City ordinances and charter provisions.
- Robert’s Rules of Order.
- Scheduling, preparing the agenda and taking minutes of meetings.
- Record retention as it relates to city government.
- Office procedures.
Ability To: - Plan, direct and supervise activities of the Office of City Clerk.
- Maintain effective working relationships with subordinates and other employees, Committee and Commission members and Council members.
- Schedule meetings.
- Communicate clearly and concisely in both verbal and written form.
- Read and understand legal documents and interpret impact on City.
Work Direction, Lead and Supervisory Responsibilities Responsibilities include supervision of the Deputy City Clerk and the Records & Archives Technician. Personal Traits/Management Style The ideal candidate should be a problem solver, practical and a person who genuinely cares about Boulder City and its residents. Because Boulder City is very close to a large metropolitan area, the individual must understand the importance of working with other governments and regional boards and be extremely competent in that arena. The ideal candidate must be professional, but also friendly and involved in both government and local affairs. He/she must be comfortable, accessible and responsive to the residents of the community.
