Position Expectations. The Village’s communication program is guided by the motto: One Village Voice. Village communications are expected to be clear and consistent, and delivered to the community in a courteous manner. With this in mind, the Communications and Outreach Coordinator will have the following key position responsibilities: - Assisting the Village Manager’s Office and staff leadership team with a strategy to ensure an optimal level of internal and external communications. This includes being mindful of various community perspectives and the need for Village communications to reach a diverse audience.
- Working with leadership team in developing a wide range of strategic and integrated marketing and communications programs that enhance, promote, and brand the Village – locally, regionally, and nationally.
- Overseeing content, design, editing and publishing of the Village’s website, newsletter, social media, print, cable access television, and related marketing and public information tools.
- Enhancing the Village’s social media presence to disseminate information and cultivate positive public relations with the community.
- Working with Village departments to develop public information documents (flyers, brochures, factsheets, etc.) to communicate information on Village services and programs, and to ensure consistency with the overall Village message, branding and organizational goals.
- Developing press releases, articles, talking points, presentation materials for the Village Manager’s Office.
- Enhancing the Village’s DEI efforts with pro-active outreach to the Community.
Position Qualifications. The successful candidate will have the following qualifications: - A Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or related field with a minimum of four years progressively responsible experience. Master’s degree is a plus but not required. Public sector or non-profit experience preferred.
- The ability to ensure the Village communicates accurately and timely with its citizens, employees, business representatives and other stakeholders who utilize Village services by planning and directing the flow of information through various forms of public media.
- Possess strong writing skills with the ability to write speeches, letters, and other targeted correspondence, and create or edit public information documents from throughout the organization.
- Ability to respond to sensitive press inquiries related to policy discussions, Village services and high-profile incidents.
- Have complete comfort with current social media outlets, understanding their appropriate use and how best to incorporate these outlets in the Village’s communication information platform.
- Be available and approachable to all including senior staff, employees, media representatives, business community, community groups and any other stakeholders all the while encouraging collaboration and effective working relationships.
Compensation and Application Process. Anticipated starting salary range: $87K-$100K. DOQ.
