The Public Works Director is a key member of the City Manager's Executive Leadership Team with responsibility for planning, directing, managing, and supervising the day-to-day operations of the Public Works Department.  Operating within broad general policy guidelines and in alignment with the City Manager, the Director exercises substantial latitude and discretion to achieve effective and efficient utilization of resources to manage the department.  This position is appointed by and serves under the direction of the City Manager and requires frequent interaction with other department directors.

Under the administrative direction of the Deputy City Manager, the Director of Public Works, performs administrative and professional engineering work in directing the activities of the Public Works Department, one of the City’s largest departments.  The Director of Public Works is responsible for planning, budgeting, organizing, staffing and directing the activities of the following eight divisions: Administration, Stormwater/Engineering, Mosquito Control, Fleet Management, Refuse, Roadway, Traffic Engineering, and Transit.   Collaborates with the City Manager, Deputy City Manager, City Council, and other departments on strategy and policy to ensure that the City’s mission and core values are incorporated into operational activities and services.
