The City of Fort Collins, Colorado (174,000) sits nestled against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains alongside the banks of the Cache La Poudre Rive. The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer will be responsible for leading The City of Fort Collins Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) efforts. The organization and community are committed to incorporating an equity lens in our service's operational and community aspects. The newly created office will establish a framework to build organizational capacity to advance equity for all, leading with race, a strategic objective in the City Council adopted City Strategic Plan. The ideal candidate must focus on the City's organization and community and have a genuine desire to serve the Fort Collins community by providing the highest possible service level. As a member of the City's Executive Leadership Team, it is fundamental for this position to create strategic, operational, and organizational culture objectives to sustainably impact diversity, equity, and inclusion in Fort Collins, Colorado.
The ideal candidate will be ethical, approachable, trustworthy, committed to excellence, and deliver meaningful results. They will communicate and collaborate openly, honestly, and authentically with people of diverse backgrounds and identities, explaining complex issues in a way that connects and builds understanding and empathy. They will expertly promulgate and implement a long-term strategy and provide new ideas and innovation through change management processes that improve the efficiency and delivery of effective programs and services. The ideal candidate will promote DEI efforts throughout the organization. S/he/they will have personal and positional power, as well as the emotional quotient, give all levels of the City honest advice, even if it conflicts with hopes and expectations or traditions.

Requires a minimum of a BA/BS in sociology, psychology, business, education, ethnic studies, LGBTQ studies, or related field
Minimum of five years' experience advocating for and implementing change within a multicultural environment
Minimum of 3 years experience developing and implementing diversity/equity/inclusion programs
Ability to communicate in languages other than English preferred
Experience successfully leading teams
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
Compensation and How to Apply
The starting salary range is $130,000 - $160,000 DOQ/E. The City of Fort Collins offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a competitive market salary commensurate with education and experience.
