The City of Wentzville — the fastest-growing city in the state of Missouri — is seeking a Director of Engineering. This newly created position will plan, organize, direct, integrate and evaluate the work of the Engineering Department, including the Stormwater Division. The ideal candidate will be excited to guide the department through Wentzville's continued growth. The person that fills this role will exercise authority and independence in implementing a broad range of professional engineering services and programs in coordination with the City Administrator, Public Works and Community Development departments.
The ideal candidate is a professional with the highest level of integrity, outstanding judgment and management skills that will thrive in a fast-paced environment. The Engineering Director will be collaborative, inclusive, tech savvy, committed to exceptional customer service, and able to motivate and maximize the skills of staff. The position requires someone with superior project management, and capital improvement cost estimation and contract administration skills, who is politically astute, a creative problem solver and has a comfort with and a strong desire for interacting with employees, department directors, elected officials, residents and other stakeholders.

Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in Civil Engineering, Public Works, Construction, or similar work environment required.
Valid driver’s license required
Registration as a Professional Engineer required, with the ability to obtain Missouri registration within 12 months of employment.
NIMS or Emergency Management Training required or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a construction-related field required; Master’s degree in Public Administration or Civil Engineering and certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer desired.
Local government and supervisory management experience desired.
