The City of Aurora seeks an experienced and dynamic leader with strong interpersonal and managerial skills to become the next Director of Planning. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative relationship builder who will set the vision and tone for delivering high-quality customer service, working with external stakeholders, and providing directions and leadership to staff. The next Director will be skilled in working with developers, neighborhood groups, citizens, elected officials, and employees. The ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy, make tough decisions, and communicate effectively with a variety of audiences will be important.
A bachelor’s degree in urban or regional planning or a directly related field, is required, along with at least eight years of progressively responsible experience in comprehensive planning and development in a large organization. At least three years of supervisory experience at a senior management level is also required. A master’s degree and AICP certification are preferred.
