The City of McKinney seeks a forward-thinking, innovative Chief Building Official who is passionate about public service to provide sound leadership for the city’s Building Inspections Department. The Chief Building Official reports to the Executive Director of Development Services who oversees Building Inspections, Code Services, Engineering, and Planning. The successful candidate will be a passionate and collaborative leader with significant experience in a fast-growth organization and pressure-filled situations. They should have the technical skills necessary to direct the daily operations of the Building Inspections Department.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Design, or a related field. A minimum of seven years of increasingly responsible related experience including at least two years of supervisory experience is also required. Candidates must have certification by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Certified Building Official or be able to gain said certification within one year of employment. A valid Texas driver’s license is required or the ability to obtain within six months of hire date. Additional qualifying education or experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, or abilities may be considered as a substitution, one for the other on a year-for-year basis.
The compensation range for the Chief Building Official position is $102,146 - $148,113.
