The Bridgeport Fire Department is comprised of three divisions: Fire Suppression, Fire Prevention, and Emergency Management. The Department serves an estimated population of 8,400 covering 63.92 square miles. It is currently an all-volunteer Department with 25 active volunteer firefighters. The Department is looking to become a blended paid and volunteer Fire Department soon.
The City of Bridgeport seeks an experienced firefighter and a proactive leader to serve as its Fire Chief. The chosen candidate will be experienced in organizing a transitioning fire department from a volunteer to a combination volunteer/paid department.
Emergency Management NIMS Training: 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800 is required, and the Fire Chief must maintain required continuing education hours. They must possess or be able to obtain immediately an appropriate, valid Texas driver’s license. Within 90 days of hire, they must be able to obtain a valid Texas Class B driver’s license with a firefighter’s exemption.
Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Basic Firefighter (Intermediate Firefighter and/or Master Firefighter is preferred)
TCFP Fire Service Instructor II (TCFP Fire Inspector certification is preferred)
Certification/licensed by TDSHS as EMT B
Texas Commission on Fire Protection Head of Department Certification (or obtain within one year of hire)
The salary range for this position is $73,000 - $89,000 dependent upon experience and qualifications.
