As one of Connecticut’s oldest municipalities, Glastonbury is dedicated to preserving its numerous parks, historic sites, and riverfront property and supports a highly active community of over 35,000 residents. Comprising roughly 51 square miles on the east bank of the Connecticut River, Glastonbury is also one of the largest Towns in the state. The Town is rich with culture, attractions, and thriving business, and is recognized as a prosperous suburban community to the capital city of Hartford. Its central location offers convenient access to all the Northeast’s major cities and it is only a short drive away from the Bradley International Airport. The Town of Glastonbury operates under a Council-Manager form of government with the Town Council comprised of nine bipartisan members who are elected every two years by the registered voters in town. The Town Council appoints a Town Manager who serves as the Chief Executive Officer for the Town who is responsible for oversight and administration of all day-to-day operation of municipal functions with the exception of the Board of Education.
Glastonbury seeks a highly ethical, decisive, strategic, transparent, and values-driven servant leader who balances growth and development with the preservation of open space to become its next Town Manager. The selected candidate should hold a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, public administration, or a closely related field, with a Master’s degree preferred. Candidates should have at least 10 years of experience in managerial, financial, and executive level decision-making, ideally in local government. Candidates will also be considered that possess any combination of education and/or work experience deemed relevant and equivalent to achieve the successful performance of the job. International City/County Management Association Credentialed Manager (ICMA-CM) preferred. Residency required within one year of appointment.
