The City of Bothell is seeking an experienced and highly regarded Finance Director to provide strategic and visionary leadership to the Finance Department. As the principal financial advisor, the Director provides leadership, direction, and guidance on all financial strategies in support of a shared vision. The Finance Director is responsible for advising the City Manager and City Council and providing high level, consistent reporting with the goal of maintaining a strong financial position and safeguarding the City’s assets.
The Director develops and directs financial plans and policies to meet City goals and ensures effective communication of financial issues. The Director promotes City goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures and analyzes financial information on City operations, effectively evaluates the City’s needs, and recommends financial solutions. Acting as the primary representative for the Finance Department, the Director works with elected officials, outside agencies, boards, and commissions to address issues and provide financial interpretation of City policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
The Director coordinates and oversees a collaborative and forward-thinking budget development process. The Finance Director provides ongoing financial forecasting and planning, tracks and monitors the adopted budget, and recommends budget adjustments. The Finance Director supervises financial reporting, preparation of financial statements, and development of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and manages the Capital Facilities Plan (CFP).

Compensation and Benefits

At least seven (7) years of experience managing government financial operations, including three (3) years of supervisory experience, is required. Direct experience leading finance, accounting, and budget functions in a similar size agency is ideal. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Generally Accepted Auditing Principles for Public Sector financial management, including payroll, treasury, grant funds, and public debt management, is required, and knowledge of Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB), Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), and Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) standards is essential. A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field, is required. Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
