Reporting to the City Manager, this newly created role of Deputy City Manager, Development & Growth (DCM), is a key leader in delivering on the City’s strategic priorities related to affordable housing, investing in people and neighbourhoods and ensuring development is resilient and tackles climate change. The DCM takes leadership of this brand-new division comprised of staff from City Planning, Development, Building, and the Housing Secretariat who have come together to deliver housing approvals faster and more efficiently, without sacrificing necessary diligence. The city of Toronto is dedicated to supporting Bill 109 - More Homes for Everyone Act, the division will develop, oversee and implement the policy, process, technology and organizational tools required to dramatically increase the supply of market housing in the City. The DCM facilitates the development and implementation of cross-departmental synergies, tackles roadblocks and implements corporate-wide organizational effectiveness, strategies, and policies in collaboration with other members of the Senior Leadership Team, the City Manager and City Council. Representing the City to the public and media is a key responsibility of the DCM, while developing productive working relationships with external stakeholders in ensuring that the City of Toronto evolves, improves, and realises its full potential.
As the ideal candidate you bring a minimum of 15 years of senior leadership experience in complex development-oriented organizations. You have an exceptional ability to grasp abstract concepts and ideas and have demonstrated successful experience in finding efficiencies and successfully implementing large complex projects while managing solid stakeholder relations. Politically astute and consultative, the DCM will have a reputation for process improvement, risk mitigation, project facilitation, financial and human resources management and growth mandates.
