Summary of Duties:
The Spokane County SNAP-Ed Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating the delivery of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) nutrition education and policy, systems and environmental (PSE) change interventions with a focus on supporting community-led change. The SNAP-Ed Manager supervises SNAP-Ed staff and serves as the primary liaison between the WSU Spokane County Extension Director, and SNAP-Ed, and internal and external constituents for the SNAP-Ed program. SNAP-Ed teaches youth and adults with limited incomes skills and behaviors to eat healthfully and maximize the value of their food dollars and food assistance benefits. The SNAP-Ed Manager administers, supervises, directs, and advises on activities involved in providing essential management services for the program.
This is a temporary position expected to end on 9/30/2023. Renewal is dependent on satisfactory performance and annual background check, the need for Extension to complete the project and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant extension program discipline and three (3) years of related program experience, which has included supervisory-level experience. A Masters degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Relevant discipline includes public health, nutrition, education, social science, counseling, youth development, family and consumer science, program development, community development, or related field.
A Food Handler's Permit is a requirement following employment. Valid driver's license and ability to travel within targeted counties.
Ability to work a flexible, yet structured schedule with occasional night and weekend shifts to meet the needs of program partners and grant requirements.
While using a private or WSU-owned vehicle for official business, must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting requirements described in RCW 46.30.020 and RCW 46.29.090) and possess a valid driver's license.
Employment is contingent upon passing a WSU background screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
Lived experience, or experience working with diverse communities using a strengths-based approach, showing sensitivity to those who experience poverty, racism, marginalization, and trauma.
Education or experience in nutrition education and public health approaches to obesity prevention.
Experience supervising staff and creating a positive and supportive work environment.
Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Demonstrated conflict resolution, organizational and management skills.
Experience in Extension or other related adult or youth development programs.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
