SUMMARY:Promote commercial development, opportunities, and existing business success. This is accomplished by composing marketing materials for a variety of media platforms, participating in partner organization and community events, and maintaining a database of available properties, business contacts, and business retention visits.
Promote development and redevelopment projects for the City of Peoria by promoting and soliciting grants from federal, state and philanthropic entities. An ideal candidate would have experience working with a diverse business community, the ability to maintain confidentiality, and represent the City of Peoria to the public in a professional manner.Experience in developing and implementing communication strategies is also highly desirable.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field, valid State driver’s license; relationship building skills and at least three years of progressively responsible related experienceand strong customer service skills required. Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job will be considered. CEcD or other economic development certification preferred but not required. Work during evenings and occasional weekends may be required.
IMPORTANT ATTRIBUTES: Knowledge of private and public financing programs, including Tax Increment Financing and Enterprise Zones. Knowledge of applicable state, federal and local ordinances, laws, rules, and regulations; principles and practices of managing and implementing urban development and redevelopment programs, small business finance and techniques of commercial lending institutions. Knowledge of economic development programs and policies. Skill in using discretion, initiative, and independent judgment within established guidelines; communicating clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials and organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with a minimum of direction. Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision to determine appropriate course of action to achieve maximum project outcome. Ability to speak effectively before public groups and respond to questions and to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
