The City Manager is the City’s Chief Operations Officer and is appointed by the Assembly. Under the Assembly’s direction and authority, the City Manager will supervise the City’s administrative and day-to-day activities. Duties include preparing and monitoring the annual budget and supervision of all department directors.
Under direction of the City and Borough Assembly, this position serves as the Chief Operating Officer of the Municipality and head of the Administration Department. The City Manager position requires the ability to actively implement policy directives by working independently and coordinating with a variety of departments, agencies and the public within the City and Borough of Juneau and the State of Alaska.
Working Hours This position generally works Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with frequent meetings outside of regular work hours. The City Manager’s office is located in City Hall in downtown Juneau.

A Bachelor’s Degree is required. A graduate degree in a professional field of study is a plus.
Five (5) years of broad and increasingly more responsible executive management experience in an organization of similar complexity to the City and Borough of Juneau is required. Experience in a government or public sector organization is strongly preferred. Knowledge and experience with Alaska-specific federal laws and programs is a plus.
Other: Under Alaska law, the City Manager is required to file a financial disclosure report annually.
