The County Manager’s Office is seeking a proven leader to fill the position of Assistant County Manager. The Assistant County Manager assists the County Manager with complex strategic and operational functions and activities and will exercise general administrative, decision-making and policy oversight of assigned departments with considerable independence and broad latitude. The Assistant County Manager will help achieve organizational objectives, and foster a culture of trust, accountability, efficiency, and transparency. Candidates for this position should have a passion for local government service, a history of servant leadership, and have the knowledge and skills to manage any county department, program or project assigned by the County Manager and be effective immediately. This position is an essential part of the County Manager’s leadership team, along with a Deputy County Manager and two other Assistant County Managers, who all report directly to the County Manager.

The Assistant County Manager is a highly responsible leadership position within the organization that works under the direction of the County Manager. Major duties and responsibilities of the position include:
Coordinates activities of various departments including the supervision of department directors.
Participates on the County’s Executive Leadership Team.
Provides staff support to various boards and commissions.
Develops and administers policies, programs, and projects.
Attends all BOCC meetings and makes presentation to the BOCC and other groups.
Reviews department budget requests.
Plays a key role in achieving the BOCC’s vision and goals for the community.
Leads the development of a High Performing Organization through active demonstration of the county’s Pillars of Performance.
Propels the County’s value of continuous improvement with a strategic focus on innovation.
Represents Johnson County Government at the local, County, State, and National level by serving on assigned committees, coalitions, organizations.
May serve as the Acting Manager in the County Manager’s absence.
Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or relevant field and 10 years of progressively responsible, professional-level related experience, including experience working with elected and appointed officials, is required. Five years of supervisory experience is required. Master’s degree and local government management experience is preferred, but any combination of experience and education that provides candidates with the required qualifications may be considered.
