Under the broad direction of the City Manager, the next Assistant City Manager will be responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, administering, directing, and evaluating municipal activities and policies. Along with managing the overall operations of their assigned departments, the selected candidate will perform various administrative duties and responsibilities involved in developing and coordinating City programs and provide highly responsible managerial support to the City Manager. The Assistant City Manager over the Quality of Life and Internal Services portfolio has executive oversight of Communications, Library Services, Parks and Recreation, Municipal Court, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Strategic Services. The portfolio of the Assistant City Manager is subject to change at the discretion of the City Manager, however, the ideal candidate must be a proven municipal leader with the ability to successfully manage virtually any city department, program, project, or activity assigned.

The chosen candidate must have a deep understanding of their role in guiding and advising the departments within their portfolio while providing decision-making support to the City Manager.
This position requires the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public administration, business administration, or a closely related field, with a master’s degree preferred. Candidates should also have at least 10 years of increasingly responsible experience, including five (5) years of experience as an assistant city manager or city manager preferred. A valid Class C Texas driver’s license or the ability to obtain one — with a good driving record — is required.
