The City of San Leandro is a well-established community of approximately 90,000 residents and one of the Bay Area's most diverse cities. The Finance Department is organized into three divisions: Administration, Accounting Operations, and Revenue, Budget, and Compliance. The Finance Director is supported by 18 full-time staff members and has a FY 24-25 operating budget of $4.8 million. This vacancy results from the previous Director’s promotion to Assistant City Manager.
The ideal candidate will exhibit depth of knowledge in most, if not all, aspects of municipal finance and have significant leadership experience in complex and diverse organizations. The selected candidate will focus on long-term fiscal sustainability, reflecting a background in financial modeling and forecasting. Soft skills are equally important to technical skills in this role, meaning that approachability, self-awareness, and a healthy sense of humor are essential qualities.
Requires six years of increasingly responsible experience in municipal finance, accounting, or a related field, including four years in a management capacity, and a Bachelor’s degree.
