Northfield (5,751 pop.) seeks highly experienced, energetic candidates for its next Village Manager. Northfield has recently attracted younger families to its charming Village which surrounds a park offering significant green space within a mile of every home. The Village Manager is appointed by the President and the Board of Trustees for an indefinite term. The prior Village Manager served the community for 25 years and 16 years as the Village Manager. The Village Board, elected at large for four-year terms, is the legislative and policy making body of the Village of Northfield. The Village has a $24.2 million total budget, which includes a $13.5 million general fund budget. Northfield is a full-service, efficient operation, providing Community Development, Finance, Fire-Rescue (paid-on-premises format), Police and Public Works. All Department Heads are appointed by and directly report to the Village Manager. The Village has 56 full-time employees and 51 paid-on-call firefighters, and, with its AAA bond rating, a strong commitment to fiscal stewardship. The Village Board and staff have a strong commitment to providing superior customer service.
Candidates for the Northfield Village Manager position must be experienced local government leaders with a commitment to excellence in customer service, fiscal discipline, integrity, and transparency in local government. The candidate must seek to partner with elected officials, staff, intergovernmental agencies, and the community.
Candidates must have a management and leadership style that reflects collaboration, teambuilding, approachability and a calm, professional demeanor. Candidates will excel in multi-tasking, detailed project management and efficient execution of daily operations. Candidates will be called upon regularly for community interaction and engagement requiring superior presentation and experience as a proven collaborator.
Candidates will demonstrate fiscal experience, particularly related to capital improvement financing and execution. A familiarity and exposure to significant capital improvement project management will be beneficial. Northfield will have a future focus on water system improvements.
Candidates will demonstrate knowledge and success in business attraction and retention and be attentive to fostering a welcoming environment to strengthen economic development efforts.
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in public administration, planning, business administration or related field. A master’s degree in public administration, business administration or other fields is highly valued.
Ten (10) years of experience in a senior leadership role in a local government.
Residency will be waived by the Village Board.
